DVD Player Toshiba SD-480E

Toshiba SD-480E

In the aftermath of the HD DVD is disappointing demise, Toshiba avoid Blu-ray and focused its attention on DVD, launched a series of players designed to squeeze the best performance of the SD format. A force of this new crusade is coming XD-E500 upscaling player, which features the company eXtended Detail Enhancement (XDE) technology, which should have DVD images on a step closer to hi-def on the increase in sharpness, color and contrast.

But while this player will undoubtedly hog the headlines, it’s worth remembering that Toshiba has a healthy range of other (and probably cheaper) upscaling DVD players in its line-up, including the Tosibha SD-480E which we’ve got our hands on here. It’s currently the second-best specified player in the range, sitting below the SD-580E, which adds a USB port. [trustedreviews]

XD-E500: Toshiba XDE DVD Niggles At Blu-ray

Toshiba XDE DVD

Toshiba did not seek to needle Sony and the rest of the Blu-ray.  Their latest idea is XDE.  At the beginning of this year we all witnessed Toshiba HD-DVD, as it was, is and then left. But now they’re back an increase in DVD and, where appropriate, to try and undermine the drawing Blu-ray.

XDE, or “eXtended Detail Enhancement,” technology, Toshiba claims more than a DVD upconverter - in view of ‘normal’ DVD resolution to be able to show them the HD TV.

The theory is that people have invested considerable amounts of money on their DVD libraries over the years, and rather than have to replace them by buying Blu-ray version may spend $ 149 to buy XDE DVD player instead.

While the change in the resolution of 480i / p to the 1080th, there are three other optional improvements - Sharp, color and contrast.
