Asus Eee Box

Asus has formally let the Eee Box out of the bag, the official press release has been posted to their web sites, and it gives most of the details. I say most, because the Asus typical fashion, neglected to mention any release date or price. They were, however, a nice enough to give us a full run down the specs.

Technical details were very close to rumored to be set, so we can only hope that the rumored pricing will be just as close, if so, we can look forward to EEE Box retail customers and about $ 299. EEE-Box, according to the press release is running Windows XP Home and is powered 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor. The mini-PC also includes a 1 GB of RAM, 80 GB hard drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi, 10/100/1000 Ethernet port and built-in card reader.

Although the general standard for low-cost, low-powered computer has some positive points, such as the exclusive Express Gate which promises the ability to “access the Internet, manage photos, or to communicate with more than IM / Skype, only 7 seconds after the start.” In addition, EEE-Box is “Unique cooling module” which allows for a quiet computer, which sets out the only 26dB of noise.

As I mentioned, the press release was not to mention the actual availability date, but we expect it may be to hit the market sooner than later. (via)
