It was not much activity, super-zoom camera to the market recently, and the impact of new models, most of the major manufacturers. Kodak has always been well represented in this area, and its Z-series, which presents some pretty good mid-range models, and some even better picture of stable, long-zoom models. Today, I have to look at one of the more powerful cameras in the series, Kodak EasyShare Z1012 IS, which was launched last year at this time. Nokia N96 3G smartphone in Q4 for North America

Nokia announced that its latest N series smartphone. The Nokia N96 will be available for high-speed 3rd HSDPA network in North America during the fourth quarter of 2008. The smartphone sports a 2.8 inch wide-screen and comes with 16 GB of internal memory.

The N96 is pretty similar to the Symbian 60-powered N95 we’ve all come to recognize as Nokia’s 5MP GPS finest, but with 16GB of internal memory and a 2.8-inch screen. This model also has a built-in DVB-H receiver for digital TV signals in Europe and Asia, and a kickstand for desktop viewing. Also new are the backlit touchbuttons on the face, dialpad and top slider section of the phone. When playing media, they show the typical play/pause/ff/rr functions; when gaming on the N-Gage gaming platform, they show control pad buttons. Approx $800, but likely no US 3G support. [gizmodo]

In the aftermath of the HD DVD is disappointing demise, Toshiba avoid Blu-ray and focused its attention on DVD, launched a series of players designed to squeeze the best performance of the SD format. A force of this new crusade is coming XD-E500 upscaling player, which features the company eXtended Detail Enhancement (XDE) technology, which should have DVD images on a step closer to hi-def on the increase in sharpness, color and contrast.

But while this player will undoubtedly hog the headlines, it’s worth remembering that Toshiba has a healthy range of other (and probably cheaper) upscaling DVD players in its line-up, including the Tosibha SD-480E which we’ve got our hands on here. It’s currently the second-best specified player in the range, sitting below the SD-580E, which adds a USB port. [trustedreviews]
